News & EventsNews: Brendan Dowler - Bound for Beijing

September 2008 – Brendan Dowler - Bound for Beijing

Pillar employee, Brendan Dowler, is on his way to Beijing to represent Australia at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.

Brendan has been a regular member of the Australian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team (nicknamed the 'Rollers') since 2001, and has played over 100 games in that time. Since his first major tournament in 2001 he has represented Australia at two World Championships and at the 2004 Athens Paralympics. The team is currently ranked 3rd from the last World Championships and won Silver at the 2004 Paralympics.

The Rollers’ first game is against Brazil on 6th September and, if they play to their potential, should be in the final four teams in Beijing with a good chance of winning a medal. We wish Brendan and the team much success at the Games.

Newsflash: Brendan Dowler wins GOLD at Paralympics in Beijing! The Australian basketball team, 'The Rollers', beat defending champions Canada in a nail-biting match, finishing with a score of 72-60. Congratulations Brendan!
